DANVILLE, Ky. – The Helena community is rallying around one of its former student athletes as former Helena High School varsity football player Justus Edwards was seriously injured and is on the road to recovery.
Edwards, currently a sophomore defensive back for Berry College, suffered a serious injury the night of Saturday, Sept. 22.
Edwards was injured during a play in a game against Centre on Sept. 22, and was carted off the field for the injuries he sustained.
Edwards injury is currently being evaluated and will require surgery. Once surgery is complete, he will begin the recovery process.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been setup for the Vikings sophomore as his family asks those to keep Justus in your thoughts and prayers.
According to the fundraiser page, the donations received will go towards assisting the Edwards family as Justus begins his recovery process. The current goal of $2,500 has already been surpassed as donations of more than $5,475 have been received as of Wednesday, Sept. 26.
In his time at Berry College, Edwards appeared in seven games in 2017 where he recorded 15 tackles, 11 of which were solo. Through the first three games of the 2018 season, Edwards recorded 11 tackles.
