ALABASTER – Alabaster’s Albert L. Scott Public Library will be giving locals a chance to enjoy delicious baked goods while getting great deals on a variety of books in early October.

The Friends of the Library group is holding its semiannual book and bake sale from Oct. 5-7 in the community room at the library at 100 Ninth Street Northwest. The sale will be open to Friends of the Library members only from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 5, and will be open to the public from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Oct. 6 and 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 7.

Attendees can get access to the Oct. 5 sale by becoming a member of the Friends of the Library organization for $10.

“Every library, ours included, can significantly enhance its mission in its community with additional non-designated funds. Programs can be improved, especially children’s’ programs, with inexpensive snacks and giveaways,” read a Friends of the Library press release. “Holiday and seasonal decorations enhance the ambiance and attractiveness of this venue for learning and educational enjoyment. Money to pay for a resource just beyond the reach of budgeted funds can make a big difference. Raising such funds is the purpose of the Friends of the Library group.”

According to the Friends of the Library, the sale will feature “almost” current fiction from popular authors, cookbooks, biographies, Christian fiction and more.

Hardback book swill be $1, while paperbacks and all children’s books will be 50 cents apiece. Books on CD and DVDs will be $2 apiece, and all proceeds will help to enhance library programming, especially children’s events. On the afternoon of Oct. 7, shoppers can pay $6 for the “all-you-can-bag” clearance.
