CALERA – After discussions with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley said a grand jury will decide if charges will be filed against a man involved in a fatal shooting on Sept. 8.
Calera police are continuing to investigate a homicide that occurred at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, in the 1300 block of 17th Avenue at Kirksey Car Wash. According to police, Prince Johnson, 57, of Calera, was shot one time in the torso with a handgun.
The suspect, Detorious Lamar Kirksey, 27, of Montevallo, is in custody pending charges. Lemley said the murder seems like it might be a case of self-defense.
“We talked to the DA and decided to send it to a grand jury to see what charges, if any, would be filed,” Lemley said.
No further information is available as the case is still under investigation.
