PELHAM – Applications are being accepted by the city of Pelham for the Pelham Police Department until Tuesday, Sept. 18.

PPD Capt. Pat Cheatwood said applications can be found online at Pelhamalabama.gov. After applications are received, a list will be compiled and test date notifications will be sent.

Basic aptitude exams will be administered on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Pelham Civic Complex and the physical fitness part of the exam will be held on Sept. 29. Those who pass both will have their names placed on a list to be called up by the PPD for interviews as positions become available.

“It’s a very long process,” Cheatwood said. “We do interviews and background investigations, and if they make it through, then they will go to the police academy.”

The next police academy begins in January. As of now, the PPD has one position open and another will become available in about three weeks.

“If you have a great attitude and want to serve the public, we’d love to have you,” Cheatwood said.

The salary for a PPD officer ranges from $40,800 to $68,295 depending on experience. No applications will be accepted after the Sept. 18 deadline.
