The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a 30-year-old Alabaster registered sex offender who deputies say is no longer living at the address he has registered with the agency.

The SCSO is searching for Cory James Spangler, who is described as 5-feet-10-inches tall, 145 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Spangler is a registered sex offender and has a warrant for his arrest for a sex offender registration notification act violation.

Spangler has a lengthy criminal history.

In May 2017, he pleaded guilty to one count of failure to register as a sex offender, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison with 125 days of jail credit subtracted from the sentence.

When Spangler was arrested in March 2017 on the sex offender registration violation, he was on probation for multiple felony rape charges he pleaded guilty to in 2012.

The Alabaster Police Department arrested Spangler on the rape charges in June 2011 and charged him with raping three 15-year-old girls and a 14-year-old girl. At the time of the rape arrests, Alabaster Police Chief Curtis Rigney said Spangler provided the underage girls with illegal narcotics before enticing them into sex.

After Spangler pleaded guilty to the rape charges in 2012, then-Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves sentenced Spangler to 15 years in prison, but split the sentence between three years in prison followed by five years of supervised probation.

Spangler received 280 days of credit for time served in the Shelby County Jail before his guilty pleas, and was serving his five-year probation period when he was arrested on the sex offender notification charge last year.
