ALABASTER – Shaggy Chic Pet Grooming celebrated its establishment in the Alabaster community during a ribbon cutting ceremony at its location at 104 Market Center Drive on the morning of Tuesday, June 12.

In the seven months Shaggy Chic has been in business, owner Tonya Lammons said she has seen business grow exponentially.

“I started out with 130 people, now we’re at about 500 clients,” Lammons said. “We have new people walk in every day.”

When she first opened Shaggy Chic in November, Lammons said she ran the business all by herself. She has since been able to hire two other dog groomers and a dog bather. She also said the business offers professional pet pictures, self-washing and is mostly kennel free.

One of the things that makes Shaggy Chic unique, Lammons said, is her ability to befriend the dogs she works with.

“We have a lot of dogs that get sent to us because they have been kicked out of other businesses because of behavioral problems or old age,” Lammons said. “My mother-in-law says I’m the dog whisperer. I’ve never had any professional training. I just know their temperaments and what to look for. We take the time to make friends before we do anything.”

Additionally, Lammons said she offers discounts to current and retired police, firefighters and military personnel and police dogs are groomed for free. She said she is also looking at offering discounts for service dogs in the future.

Lammons has about 10 years of prior grooming experience in the Alabaster area. She said she decided to keep Shaggy Chic local to serve the clientele she had worked hard to develop.

Alabaster Mayor Marty Handlon said she appreciates Lammons’ decision to set up shop in the city and said small businesses like Shaggy Chic play a vital role in the community.

“Your contribution to the city’s business community helps us do what we do for our citizens,” Handlon said.

Lammons said she has received a large amount of positive feedback from customers and is looking forward to continuing to work in Alabaster.

“Everybody that has come in has loved it and come back,” Lammons said. “We’re growing and having fun doing it.”
