HELENA–In just four seasons, the Helena High School varsity baseball program has already established itself as one of the top programs in the state of Alabama, and on the week of June 18, children aspiring to learn the fundamentals of baseball will have a chance to attend a summer baseball camp and learn from HHS coaches and players.
On June 18-20, Helena High School will host a youth summer baseball camp for children between the ages of 6-12. The camp will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
The camp will be highlighted by instruction from Helena High School head baseball coach P.J. Guy and several varsity players. Guy has amassed a record of 127-55 in four seasons at Helena that includes a state championship in 2017 and two runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2018. Guy has also been awarded Shelby County Coach of the Year the past two seasons for his accomplishments.
The cost of the camp is $75 and campers will receive instruction with the primary focus being on fundamental and skill instruction with an emphasis on stressing the importance of academics, character, teamwork and sportsmanship. The camp will be a great opportunity for younger players to build a proper foundation to become a better baseball player, according to the camp philosophy. Campers will also receive a camp T-shirt for attending.
Guy is the main contact for the camp and he can be reached at 393-8731 or at pguy@shelbyed.org. Checks for the camp should be made payable to Helena High School Baseball, 1310 Hillsboro Parkway.
