CALERA – Pastor Raymond Rivers, of Gospel Light Free Will Baptist Church, is inviting area children to learn about the Bible during the church’s third Creation Science Bible Camp from June 25-29.
Camp sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day and is for students entering third grade and up. Rivers said the camp is free, but participants are responsible for bringing their lunch and a snack.
During the camp, Rivers said children will learn about the creation of earth as told in the Book of Genesis.
“The campers will to learn about science from a biblical perspective,” Rivers said. “We will cover subjects like our creator, creation, dinosaurs, the Genesis flood, stars and of course salvation through Jesus Christ. We will have fossils, fossil replicas and rocks, too.”
Rivers said the camp includes a dinosaur museum, a science lab, videos and a staging area outside where experiments will take place.
“Dinosaurs do fit into the Bible,” he said. “That’s something that most people don’t know. The Bible and science are compatible and we want to teach kids about that.”
In the science lab, campers will be able to use scientific equipment like microscopes, MagniScopes and more. Campers will participate in science experiments every day. Rivers said he will primarily be teaching the classes but will receive assistance from some members of the congregation.
Rivers, who began preaching at 16 years old, said he started studying the topic and learning about science from a Bibical perspective about 12 years ago.
“We just want to share the word with kids and give them something worthwhile to do with their time,” he said.
