COLUMBIANA – The total number of counts of possession of child pornography against a Harpersville man is up to 29 after more were added on May 16.

Rufus Elliot Curles, 60, who lists an address off Dusty Way in Harpersville, was originally arrested April 27 by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and charged with 15 felony offenses that occurred from June 2017 through April.

Curles allegedly possessed nude pictures of minors under the age of 17.

Fourteen additional counts of possession of child pornography were levied on May 16, according to court records.

The arrest warrant for the new charges state that Curles possessed digital images of children in sexually explicit poses.

Bond was set at $15,000 per count for the original charges, and $10,000 per count for the new charges, for a total of $365,000.

Curles remains at the Shelby County Jail.

The preliminary hearing in the case is set for 8:30 a.m. on June 7 with District Court Judge Daniel A. Crowson Jr. presiding.
