‘Tis the season for book awards and our library gives you access to the winners. The 2018 Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children went to Wolf in the Snow, illustrated and written by Matthew Cordell. The Caldecott honor books are: Big Cat, little cat by Elisha Cooper, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, illustrated by Gordon C. James, written by Derrick Barnes, A Different Pond, illustrated by Thi Bui, written by Bao Phi, and Grand Canyon by Jason Chin.

The 2018 Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature went to Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly. Newbery honor books are: Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, Piecing Me Together by Renée Watson, and Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut by Derrick Barnes.

March 23 American Girls Club 4 p.m. Celebrate Women’s History Month. Girls age 7 and older can come with or without a doll. Please sign up.

Cake & Culture Discovering Alabama: Whooping Cranes March 18, 2 p.m. Writer and award winning TV producer Roger Reid presents a pre-broadcast peek at Discovering Alabama: Whooping Cranes.
