PELHAM – The council announced at a meeting on Monday, Feb. 19, that it is accepting letters of interest and resumes until Wednesday, March 28, at 12 p.m. from those who would like to be appointed to the Pelham Board of Education Place 5.

Please submit all letters and resumes to Pelham City Clerk/Treasurer Tom Seale prior to the deadline.

The Pelham City Council also conducted a public hearing and first reading of Ordinance 135-216, a request to change the present zoning A-1 Agricultural District to R-G Residential Garden Home.

The property is located on Shelby County 11 and is owned by Highpointe Properties LLC. The company hopes to construct a subdivision with about 123 homes.

In other business, the council:

-Approved a resolution to reapprove a 040 ABC license and a 060 ABC license for Ajlofoods, Inc., operating as Full Moon BBQ.

-Approved a contract for strategic planning with the Office of Business and Community Initiatives at Auburn University at Montgomery.

-Approved a resolution to participate in the production and publication of a pictorial history book of Pelham.

-Approved a resolution to appoint Billy Crandall as the city employee representative to the unexpired term of Dany Ray on the Pelham Panning Commission.

-Approved a resolution to approve an agreement with the Shelby County Community Health Foundation.

-Announced that the Birmingham Bulls will play the Knoxville Ice Bears on Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena.

-Announced that the Alabama Department of Transportation will host a public involvement meeting regarding road improvements to Shelby County 52 between U.S. 31 and Interstate-65 on Tuesday, March 6 from 4-6 p.m. at the Pelham Recreation Center. The public is encouraged to attend.
