Chelsea – As part of the Alabama Communities of Excellence program, the city of Chelsea is hosting an Assessment Day to listen to feedback from residents and discuss the community’s needs. The ACE Assessment Day is set for Thursday, Jan. 18 at Chelsea City Hall, and will last from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“(Residents who come) not only get to hear what is going on in Chelsea, but they also get to give their input,” Mayor Tony Picklesimer said.

Picklesimer said the event will feature several notable speakers from around Shelby County, including County Manager Alex Dudchock, Yvonne Murray of 58 Inc., Carol Bruser of Leadership Shelby County, Julie Godfrey of Shelby County Schools and Chelsea Resident Chris Grace.

The speakers will each give presentations on topics related to Chelsea, including planning, infrastructure, public services, business, industry, leadership development, education, workforce preparation, healthcare and the city’s overall quality of life.

“There are some hard-hitters in Shelby County that are speaking at this,” Picklesimer said.

Chelsea was selected to be a part of the ACE program in July 2017, and is hosting the Assessment Day as phase one of the program’s three-phase approach to enhance the city’s quality of life. The data collected from the ACE Assessment Day will be used to help the city with future planning.
