PELHAM – The Pelham City Council conducted a public hearing and the first reading of ordinance requesting the rezoning 4.85 acres of land at the request of the Pelham Board of Education.
Ordinance No. 135-215, an amendment to the zone district boundaries of the city, changing the present zoning A-1 Agricultural District to R-1 Residential District. The 4.85-acre property is located on Shelby County 33.
Rezoning the land would allow the city to move forward with plans to construct a connector road in the area of U.S. 31 and Shelby County 33 to Pelham Oaks Elementary School.
The road would make it much easier to get from school to school and open up the possibilities for new business in the area.
In other business, the council:
-Accepted a donation from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, Inc. for the Pelham Fire Department.
-Approved the installation of street lights on Bent Creek Drive.
-Accepted the low bid from Pinnacle Data Systems for the outsourcing of Pelham’s water, sewer and garbage billing.
