COLUMBIANA – A Shelby man who was arrested in May recently pleaded not guilty to numerous sex charges involving a minor and an animal.

Daniel Ray Dunn, 28, who lists an address on Shelby County 406, pleaded not guilty to charges of bestiality, producing child pornography and three counts sodomy in the first degree on Dec. 5.

He was arrested by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on May 26 on one count of first-degree sodomy, producing child pornography and bestiality. He later received two additional charges of first-degree sodomy.

According to court documents, Dunn allegedly “engaged in deviate sexual intercourse” with a victim who was younger than 12 years old on three occasions in April and May.

His production of child pornography charge stems from an incident when Dunn allegedly “took pictures of the victim with her mouth on his (genitals)” in May.

Dunn was also accused of engaging in sexual contact with a female dog in May.

Production of child pornography and first-degree sodomy are class A felonies. If convicted, Dunn could face up to life in prison. Bestiality is a Class A misdemeanor, which can be penalized by up to a year in prison.

Since the date of his arrest, Dunn has been held at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling more than $1 million. After Dunn’s case was bound over to a grand jury in June, it was assigned to Shelby County Circuit Court Judge William H. Bostick III. Dunn is scheduled to appear in court for a status call on Feb. 6, 2018.
