PELHAM – The city of Pelham will participate in the state’s Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday in February 2018.
Alabama will hold its seventh annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday beginning Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at midnight. Alabama shoppers will be able to stock up tax-free on common supplies costing $60 or less per item.
Items exempt from sales tax during the holiday include most batteries, cell phone batteries, cell phone chargers, many radios, many light sources such as flashlights and lanterns, tarps and other waterproof sheeting, anchor systems such as bungee cords or rope, duct tape, plywood, non-electric food storage cooler, non-electric can opener, artificial ice, ice packs, first aid kits, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and gasoline fuel containers, among other items.
Coin batteries and automobile and boat batteries will be taxed.
Also, residents can avoid paying sales tax on a single purchase up to $1,000 of a portable generator and power cords.
