Cornerstone 0, Escambia 55
A strong first season for head coach James Lee and the Cornerstone Chargers came to an end Friday night when they traveled to take on a top 5 Escambia team in the first round of the playoffs.
No. 4 Escambia came into the game with an overall record of 9-1 with just one loss to No. 1 Autauga Academy. As one of the favorites to win a state championship, they proved too much for the Chargers in the 55-0 win.
Cornerstone finished the season with an overall record 6-5 and showed several different promising things. Lee said all year, this group was there to set up for the future and he’s now got one year of experience under his belt.
Kingwood 6, Autauga Academy 49
Kingwood had the pleasure of taking on No. 1 Autauga Academy in the first round of the playoffs and couldn’t get anything going on either side of the ball as the Lions’ season came to an end at the hands of a 49-6 loss.
The Lions only won game during head coach Todd Bradford’s first year at the helm, but had two losses by four points or less in what was a program-building year for the future. Kingwood finished with an overall record of 1-10 in 2017.
