More than $10,000 raised after accident involving Shelby child

SHELBY – Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene of an accident involving one vehicle and an 18-month-old boy at around 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, 18-month-old Austin Rush was struck by a pick-up truck on Shelby County 47 in Shelby. The driver attempted to avoid hitting the child, but was unable to.
The child was transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
Shortly after the incident occurred, a GoFundMe page entitled “Love Offering for Austin Rush” was set up to help the family with medical expenses. So far, the page has raised $10,660.
According to an update on the GoFundMe page at around 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, the child’s seizures have stopped and doctors are weaning him off of some medications.
“Please keep praying. (We have a long way) still to go,” the post read. “We have the best doctors and nurses in the state on the case.”
