HARPERSVILLE – Coosa Valley snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday night, Sept. 29, when they took down Sparta Academy 21-14 in a battle of two tough teams looking to turn their seasons around.
Sparta came into the game 0-6, while the Rebels were 1-5 on the season, meaning each was desperately searching for some momentum moving into their final three games.
It was Coosa Valley that was able to come out on top thanks to another impressive game from Lew Dale, who had 12 carries for 130 yards and one touchdown offensively and another interception for the playmaker on defense.
Kaleb Allen had four carries for 27 yards and a touchdown, while Chase Carlee led all receivers with three catches for 65 yards. Carlee, like Dale, also made an impact defensively by picking up an interception.
On the defensive side of the ball, besides the two picks, Austin Bynum led the team with eight tackles, while Stone Dorough led the team with two sacks.
The Rebels had failed to score more than seven points in all but one game this season, their lone win in a 49-36 victory over North River Christian, but were able to pick up 21 points in this one.
Coosa Valley now has already matched last year’s win total with three games left to play and has as many wins this year as they do combined in the last three years.
The Rebels will jump back into region play, where they are 1-1 right now, next week when they host Kingwood in a county battle of teams fighting for a spot in the postseason.
