COLUMBIANA – A 36-year-old Maylene man is facing up to 20 years in prison after he was recently indicted on two domestic violence charges.
A Shelby County grand jury during its August session returned a two-count indictment against William George McGee, who lists an address on Shelby County 260 in Maylene, upholding a felony charge of domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation and a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic violence.
McGee is now set to appear in Shelby County Circuit Court for arraignment on Oct. 3 at 8:30 a.m.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested McGee on Sept. 22, 2016, and charged him with the two domestic violence charges. He also has had his bond revoked on a previous misdemeanor domestic violence charge brought against him in April involving the same victim.
On April 25, 2016, McGee was arrested and charged with using abusive language toward the victim. When he was released from the Shelby County Jail on a $2,000 bond the same day he was arrested, his bond stipulated he have no contact with the victim.
According to his arrest warrants, McGee allegedly violated the conditions of his bond when he had contact with the victim on Sept. 19, 2016. During the incident, he allegedly choked her, punched her in the face multiple times, knocked her over and threw household items at her.
Domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation is a Class B felony, and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison upon conviction.
McGee has remained in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $17,000 since his 2016 arrest.
