Teens and tweens have something to say, and we want to help them say it! The week of Oct. 8 is national Teen Read Week™ (TRW), and the theme is “Unleash your Story.” Students in grades 6-12 can learn how to tell their stories on Oct. 10 from 6-7:30 p.m. The session will include: A writing workshop, snacks, a behind-the-scenes tour of the library and door prizes. Workshop leader Roger Reid is the Emmy award-winning writer, producer and director of Alabama Public Television’s Discovering Alabama and the author of young adult novels. TRW spotlights the resources available to help teens build literacy skills while reading for the fun of it.

We’ll have other programs for folks from toddlers to adults. Details are below.

Kids’ Programs

-Oct. 3 Lego® League 4-4:45 p.m.

-Oct. 9 Homeschool Happening: Crunch & Munch, Read with Lunch 10-11 a.m.

Combine reading and preparing a taste treat with Charity Battles of Alabama 4-H Clubs. Students in grades 1 through 12 can sign up. Six-year-olds must be with an adult.

-Oct. 10 Teen Read Week™: Unleash Your Story 6-7:30 p.m. Kids in sixth-12^th grade can sign up. Read details above.

-Oct. 13 Fractured Fairy Tales Friday 4 p.m. Kids in first grade and above can sign up for a different look at fairy tales. This session: Cinderella.

-Oct. 17 Pete the Cat Book Club 6 p.m. Sign up for fun reading.

-Oct. 20 American Girls Club: Fashion Show 4 p.m. Girls age 7 years old and older can model in a costume fashion show. They can dress like an American Girl character or wear another costume, with or without a doll. Sign up.

-Oct. 23 Magic Treehouse Passport to Adventure 4 p.m. Kids in grades 1-4 can sign up. We’ll focus on Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve. Kids can wear costumes if they want to.

-Oct. 24 Family Time Tasty Tales 6 p.m. Dinner and story. Families can listen to Dragons Love Tacos and enjoy a taco dinner. Families with kids old enough to listen to the story and eat tacos can sign up by Oct. 23.

-Oct. 31 Costume Capers Party 4:15 p.m. Kids may wear costumes and enjoy magician Russell Davis and more. All children must be with an adult.

Story Times are Tunes & Tales for all ages Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. and Toddler Tales at 10:30 a.m. Fridays.

-Computer Classes – 10 a.m. Oct. 3 Introduction to Microsoft Publisher 2013; 10 a.m. Oct. 10 Computer Basics; 6 p.m. Oct. 19 Microsoft Word 2013 Crash Course.

-ABC & Ds of Medicare 1 p.m. Oct. 9.

-Library Book Group 7 p.m. Oct. 19 The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.

-Suicide Prevention 6pm Oct. 30 Ashley Foster, of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: Alabama Chapter, will discuss understanding the suicidal mind and more.
