PELHAM – The Pelham Public Library has several adult events planned in the coming months such as a seminar about understanding Medicare and book signings.
Below is a list of upcoming events at the library:
Understanding Medicare Seminar
This event will be Thursday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m. Does Medicare confuse you? Get answers at this seminar provided by a Medicare advisor from Physicians Mutual. The presentation simplifies complex issues such as the Medicare parts, enrolling and more. Hundreds age into Medicare each month in this area. It is a complex and confusing process for most individuals. Attend this program and get the facts. The seminar is free and open to the public.
Holiday Mailbox Cover Presentation
This event will be Monday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. The holidays will be here before you know it. Get a head start on your decorating checklist with a presentation by longtime floral expert Suzy Reynolds-Smith as she demonstrates the techniques and tools used to create fantastic mailbox covers. All arrangements made for the demonstration will be given away by drawing at the end of the program. The program is free, but seating is limited and will fill quickly.
Pelham Public Library Shred Event and Donation Drive
This event will be Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Gain peace of mind by knowing that your important documents will not end up in the wrong hands. Protect yourself from identity theft. This free event will provide city residents with a safe and secure resource to shred their confidential personal and business documents. During the event, anyone can bring their documents in and have them shredded by an on-site, certified Shred-it employee. From drop-off to destruction, all documents will be constantly monitored and protected. The event is free, but donations to the Pelham Library Building Fund are greatly appreciated. There is a six box limit per individual. No household garbage, glass, metal, CD’s/DVDs please.
“Forgotten Alabama” author Glenn Wills book presentation and signing
This event will be Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. Travel Alabama’s back roads and you will inevitably come across an old abandoned place. What stories it could only tell… if you had the ability to hear them. Some time ago, Alabaster resident Glenn Wills made it his mission to capture thousands of beautiful images of neglected places in Alabama before they disappear. His haunting and poignant photographs accompanied his personal blog on his website and Facebook page. Mr. Wills traveled thousands of miles and every county in Alabama capturing these places on film and sharing his experiences. His efforts eventually coalesced in the creation of the books, “Forgotten Alabama” and “Forgotten Alabama 2.” This is a wonderful opportunity to hear his story and see a presentation of his work. Books will on sale for signing afterward. This event is free to attend, but seating is limited.
Exploring the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails
This event is Saturday, Dec. 2, from 2-3:30 p.m. Come hear local resident Davis Grimes speak about his experiences on the famed Appalachian Trail. With little physical preparation and minimum provisions, Mr. Grimes walked over 2,000 miles in just 132 days. The success rate is small, about 20 percent of hikers who begin the trail will even complete it. Mr. Grimes averaged 18 miles a day and sometimes walked up to 40 miles a day. Learn about planning and preparation, equipment, food and other matters, trail safety, as well as the good times and great friendships that are formed while on the trail. If you have been following our social media, you will have seen the posts by Grimes during his trek out west. Come hear about his new adventures on the PCT. This is a can’t-miss opportunity. The event is free, but seating is limited.
