FROM STAFF REPORTS

HELENA–On July 19, the Helena Beautification Board and youth from Helena United Methodist Church teamed up to help keep Helena beautiful.

The afternoon event kicked off with Helena Beautification Board Vice Chairman Brian Puckett discussing the mission and values of the board along with the importance of becoming involved in the community.

During the event, Puckett and Board Chairman Chris VanCleave, along with 24 children ranging from 8-12 years old made their way through Old Town Helena cleaning the flower beds.

“We always want the city to shine and routine maintenance is a part of that effort,” VanCleave said. “It’s through partnerships such as this one that not only create a more beautiful place to live, it instills a sense of community pride in our citizens. During today’s event, these students not only pulled weeds and helped with cleanup efforts, they also had an opportunity to learn about what’s actually planted here and how the native perennials we’ve planted are helping the environment. The more we do to involve our young people the better.”

The Helena Beautification Board is an appointed board of the Helena City Council. The board believes that people and places are profoundly connected and thriving communities are rooted in individual responsibility and action. They host a variety of opportunities for the community to come together and serve each year. Events are posted on the Helena Beautiful Facebook page and announced via Twitter at @TweetHomeHelena.
