PELHAM – Members of Pelham Fire Department’s dive team spent the morning of Thursday, June 8, fishing a vehicle out of the lower fishing lake at Oak Mountain State Park.
Fire Chief Tim Honeycutt said a vehicle rolled into the lake at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7. No one was injured during the incident.
Honeycutt said the female driver was not in the vehicle when it began rolling into the lake.
Honeycutt said it appears that the vehicle might’ve been left in the wrong gear, but he said he doesn’t know much about the circumstances surrounding the vehicle rolling into the water.
“We’re just here to help the wrecker service get it out of the water,” Honeycutt said.
Honeycutt said the dive team had to locate the vehicle in the 13-feet-deep lake.
“They’re responsible for going into the water and seeing what position and condition the vehicle is in and attaching the wrecker equipment to the vehicle so it can be pulled out of the water,” Honeycutt said.
The dive team arrived at OMSP around 8:30 a.m. and the vehicle was retrieved from the lake around 11 a.m.
