HELENA–What better way to end the school year than to celebrate outside, where most middle schoolers will be found during their summer break?
On Wednesday, May 24, Helena Middle School students were seen on the backside of the school enjoying many activities and rides during the annual H-day.
Husky Day, or H-Day for short, is a field day of sorts that included a pirate ship ride, bounce slide, twist and shout ride, a baseball game, a dunking booth, photo booth and food and drinks.
H-Day has become a tradition at the middle school to celebrate the end of the school year and give students one final opportunity to interact with classmates.
Students were outside enjoying shaved ice, amusement rides and more as they enjoyed some of the final moments of the 2016-17 academic year.
Seventh graders Brayden Haynes, Matthew Bell and Jacob Strickland were outside enjoying the festivities as each student had a different favorite ride or activity.
Haynes said his favorite was the obstacle course, Bell said his favorite was the baseball hitting station and Strickland said he enjoyed the dunking booth the most.
A side note to the 2017 Husky Day was that Helena Middle School Principal Scott Knight would be retiring at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
Knight has been the principal at HMS since 2011 and Haynes, Bell and Strickland all shared their thoughts on Knight and his time as principal at HMS.
“He would always go out of his way to make things fun,” Haynes said when recalling his favorite thing about Knight.
Bell and Strickland cited Knight’s “enthusiasm” and “ability to make things fun” as two of his best qualities while principal at HMS.
