WILSONVILLE – Fourmile Baptist Church will be hosting a Social Media/ Internet Safety seminar for parents, caregivers and grandparents on Saturday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Roger Chambers, pastor of Fourmile Baptist and the program manager at Family Connection, said the seminar will be all about educating parents on the dangers of social media and certain phone apps. Chambers said the event is open to parents throughout Shelby County and beyond.

“Most parents are not aware of what their children are doing online,” said Chambers, who holds a social work counseling degree.

Chambers, who will be leading the seminar, said the it will focus on the dangers of social media, social media lingo, dangerous apps and apps designed for parents to use to monitor their kids.

“A number of youth have come into our facility because their parents find out what they’re doing and then the parents takes away their cell phone, and the kids get physically violent with their parents,” Chambers said.

If the event is successful, Chambers said there will be another seminar on drugs.

Chambers advised parents and guardians not to bring their children with them to the seminar. Fourmile Baptist is located at 15577 Shelby County 61 in Wilsonville.
