BIRMINGHAM -A Hoover man was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday, May 25, for three bank robberies that he allegedly committed between January and April.

According to a press release from the office of Acting U.S. Attorney General Robert O. Posey, the indictment charged David Alan Lawley, 34, with robbery in the first degree.

Lawley, who lists an address on Patton Chapel Drive, was identified as the suspect in the robbery of the APCO Employees Credit Union in Chelsea on Jan. 30. He allegedly also robbed the Covenant Branch in Leeds on March 31 and the BB&T in Tuscaloosa on April 13.

Lawley was arrested on by Northport police on April 16, and is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

If convicted, Lawley could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

An indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
