COLUMBIANA — Michael Keith Gay, 39, of Columbiana, surrendered himself to the sheriff’s office on Friday, May 27. He was released on $20,000 bond the same day.
In October 2010, the sheriff’s office received a complaint of misconduct from an inmate within the corrections facility, said the sheriff’s press release issued today.
Two separate investigations began immediately. First, an investigation was conducted by the sheriff’s office to determine whether internal policy was violated, according to the press release.
At the request of Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry, a second investigation was conducted by the Alabama Bureau of Investigations to determine possible criminal violations.
Gay was a corrections officer for Shelby County from November 2004 through November 2010. He resigned after being placed on administrative leave while the investigations were ongoing.
