CALERA – The Calera Farmers Market is gearing up for the seventh annual Calera Strawberry Festival on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oliver Park, which is located at 9758 Alabama 25.
Market manager Rebecca Krueger said the festival will feature 40-50 food and crafts vendors.
“We will have vendors selling everything from honey, arts and crafts, funnel cakes and barbecue,” Krueger said. “Our strawberry vendors have planted a great number more strawberries than they did last year. Our farmers have planted well over 100,000 strawberries plants, so we should have a good supply.”
Barbecue vendors include Lazy Boy BBQ and Fred’s Bar-B-Q. Krueger said the kid’s zone will feature inflatables and face painting. LifeSouth will be at the festival holding a blood drive and community booths highlighting service organizations will be on hand offering helpful info to the public.
Bluegrass band Big Canoe Creek will provide musical selections during the event.
Krueger said 3,000-4,000 area residents usually attend the festival.
“We’re super excited for the strawberry festival,” she said. “This is always a good, fun-filled family day and we’re just hoping for good weather.”
Krueger also added that Calera’s summer market, which is held at Oliver Park, is transitioning from a weekday market to Saturday mornings only. The market begins the first Saturday in June and ends the last Saturday in August.
