Chamber hosting ‘Ready to Shred’ event on April 21

PELHAM – Area residents will have an opportunity to shred unwanted documents and electronics during the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce’s Existing Business and Industry Work Group’s second annual “Ready to Shred” recycling event on Friday, April 21.
The event, hosted in conjunction with Gone for Good Document and E-Waste Solutions, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Pelham Civic Complex, located at 500 Amphitheater Road.
Gone for Good Document and E-Waste Solutions will be on-site with a mobile truck for document destruction, and there will also be an electronic waste drop-off area. The services will be offered for free.
During last year’s event more than 70 businesses and individuals brought over 4,001 pounds of paper, which was shredded, and 939 pounds of electronic waste, which consists of computers/laptops, cell phones, PDAs, DVD players/VCRs, household appliances, printers, stereos and much more.
The acceptable electronic waste items include:
-Computers/ Laptops
-Cell Phones/ PDAs
-DVD Players/ VCRs
-Household Appliances
-Communication Equipment
-Office Machines, Printers, Stereos
-Servers/ Routers
Participants are asked to observe the following limits:
– No more than 4 banker boxes of paper items
– No more than 4 lawn/ leaf bags of acceptable recyclables
– No more than 4 medium plastic storage bins of acceptable recyclables
– No TVs, computer monitors or batteries
