Heavily favored Bibb County scored early and often to end the season of the Calera Eagles. The Choctaws swept the best-of-three series Friday night, 18-3 and 16-3, in Centreville.
“That’s just a good ball team,” said Calera head coach Stephen Floyd referring to the Choctaws.
In the first set, Bibb County took the early 3-0 lead after the first inning and added five runs in the second to completely seize momentum. Ten more runs were added including a grand slam notched by sophomore Darren Whatley. Calera was led by freshman Junior Posey, junior Trent Posey and senior Chris Anderson. Each racked two hits apiece. Scott Reneau led efforts on the mound.
Bibb County led game two going into the bottom on the first but Trent Posey sent a towering three-run home run over the left field wall and it seemed Calera had something going. Bibb would answer with four in the second and six in the third. Calera had no answer. The Eagles were led led by Posey, who was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and junior Adam Winterbottom who added a double.
“I was proud of the way we beat them just to get to the playoffs,” Floyd said. “But they just hit the ball. We lose only two seniors so it’s up to the players how far we go in the future.”
Bibb County (23-8) advances to the third round of the playoffs.
