Lester’s Chapel United Methodist Church will host their annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. According to Rev. Melissa Patrick, all members of the community are welcome to compete in the cook-off, taste chili from competitors and make s’mores at a bonfire.
According to Patrick, everyone who will compete in the cook-off should be in the Lester’s Chapel Gym by 4 p.m. to set up their stations.
Guests have the opportunity to taste a sample of each contestant’s chili and help themselves to the cornbread, drinks and desserts that Lester’s Chapel will provide. The winner will be decided by a popular vote, and will receive a grand prize of a $100 gift card. Everyone will be entered in a random drawing for door prizes
Patrick said this is the first year the church will host a bonfire in the pasture adjacent to the church’s property. Guests have the opportunity to gather around the fire and sing songs together.
The church will supply chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers for guests to make s’mores. Patrick urged guests who walk to the bonfire to wear sturdy shoes.
Patrick said the Chili Cool-Off has taken place on the first Saturday in February for about 15 years. During last year’s cook-off, more than 100 guests attended.
The event is free to everyone who wishes to attend or compete. However, a five-dollar donation is suggested.
“Anything people contribute will go into supporting our community ministries,” Patrick said.
