Calera beats Shelby County, Sylacauga in tri-match

The Calera Eagles moved to 9-3 (2-0) on the season after beating both Shelby County and Sylacauga 2-0 in a tri-match on Monday. The Lady Eagles beat Shelby County 25-13, 25-22 and beat Sylacauga 25-12, 25-12. Dreka Griffin had nine total kills and three total blocks in the two matches, Bria Hayes had eight kills, six aces and six blocks in the two matches and Hanna Marling had seven kills and six aces to lead Calera.

 

 

Sept. 13

Spain Park falls to Hoover

In a grueling, five-set match between cross-town rivals Hoover and Spain Park on Tuesday night, the Lady Bucs got the best of Spain Park by a final of 25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 15-9. Spain Park went down two sets early, but came back to tie the match at 2-2 before Hoover pulled out the fifth set to get the win. Karlee Moss led the Spain Park offense with 16 kills, seven blocks and six digs while Marlee Johnson had 15 kills and 19 digs and Sha’Kevia Hogan added 14 kills, 11 digs and four blocks. Spain Park moved to 7-5 with the loss.

 

Oak Mountain beats Pelham on the road

7A Oak Mountain moved to 9-6 on the season on Tuesday night after traveling to cross-county foe Pelham and beating the Lady Panthers 3-0 via a 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 decision. Pelham fell to 10-13 with the loss, and the Lady Panthers had been shut out in three consecutive matches as of Sept. 13.

 

Coosa Valley stays perfect

Kalei Merrifield, Sarah Warren and Sydni Bolden led the Lady Rebels to a win over Tuscaloosa County on Tuesday night in a quick three-set win, 25-23, 25-14, 25-20. Merrifield had 15 kills and 12 digs, Warren had 20 assists and six aces while Bolden had 15 digs to lead Coosa Valley. The Lady Rebels moved to 11-0 on the season with the win.
