Vincent officials today announced in a press release that a limestone rock quarry is being considered for the more than 1,000 acres of land bought up by a mining company over the last two years.

The project is being proposed by White Rock Quarries, a division of the Vecellio Group of West Palm Beach, Fla.

An informational meeting about the rock quarry will be held on May 19 from 5-8 p.m. at Vincent Elementary School.

Mayor Ray McAllister said the Town Council regrets not being able to talk to citizens about the project.

“As Mayor, and on behalf of the Town Council, I want to say that we regret the delay in announcing this project,” he said. “It was certainly not our intent to delay the announcement, but officials from White Rock asked for extra time to work out engineering and other details before the project could be announced.”

In the press release, McAllister said that the rock quarry was originally supposed to be announced sooner. He said if it had been announced when originally intended, Vincent citizens would already have information about the project.

McAllister also said that the quarry could be as much as a $100 million capital investment, eventually creating jobs for 125 people. There could be several stages of the project, which would include adding processing and manufacturing facilities. If that were to happen, several hundred new jobs could be created.
