MONTGOMERY – The boys and girls track teams from the Westminster Academy of Oak Mountain traveled to the Montgomery to compete in the Montgomery Academy Invite on April 9. The Lady Knights placed second in the girls meet out of 20 teams competing, beating out host Montgomery Academy by a single point. The boys track team placed eighth out of 19 teams, scoring 39 total points.

The Lady Knights scored 64 points at the meet, but did not have a single first-place finisher at the meet. Payton Metcalf and Sarah Kate Lipperd led Westminster, combining for 37 of the Lady Knights’ 64 points. Metcalf placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, fourth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in 100-meter dash, finishing in the top eight in all four of her events and scoring 20 points. Lipperd placed second in the 800-meter dash, third in the 300-meter dash and sixth in the 400-meter dash, good for 17 points.

Alice Boone placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, Hannah York placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, Hallie Porterfield placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run and the 4×800-meter relay team placed third to lead Westminster to its second-place finish.

The boys team fared well also, beating out a number of larger schools such as Carver-Montgomery and Prattville. The only first place finish of the day for Westminster came from the boys’ 4×800-meter relay team, which beat second-place Trinity Presbyterian School by more than 20 seconds, finishing with a time of 8:43.17.

The Knights got the majority of their 37 points from field events. Samuel Haskins placed sixth in both the triple jump and the long jump, Wiley Boone placed fifth in the long jump and John Lusk placed fifth in the pole vault, giving Westminster 14 points in field events. Jacob Carrell placed fifth in the 300-meter dash and seventh in the 400-meter dash while Hunter Wright placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run and Cole Callahan placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles to round out the individual scoring for the Knights.
