Lady Jags play six games in two days

GULF SHORES – Spain Park traveled down to the coast to take part in the Gulf Coast Classic III Softball Tournament over spring break, playing in six games over the course of two days, going 4-2 to move to 21-8 on the year. Spain Park beat Station Camp 8-2 and beat John Carroll 11-7 on the first day before splitting four games on March 30. Here is a recap of the March 30 games.

 

Game 1. Spain Park 5 – Spanish Fort 0

The Lady Jags scored a run in the first and two runs in the second and third innings to take a 5-0 lead, and Annabelle Wildra pitched a complete, five-inning game giving up just three hits and striking out eight in the winning effort. Kynadi Tipler and Mary Katherine Tedder each went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead Spain Park to the win.

 

Game 2. Alexandria 3 – Spain Park 2

Both Alexandria and Spain Park scored two runs in the second inning before Alexandria slapped another run across the plate in the fifth to give the Lady Valley Cubs a 3-2 lead, which they held on to, giving Spain Park its first loss of the tournament. Kate Campbell pitched a single inning before Caroline Kendrick came in to pitch the final four for Spain Park, and five different Lady Jaguars had a hit a piece in the game. The two runs Spain Park scored on Alexandria was the lowest run output of the tournament for the Lady Jags.

 

Game 3. Spain Park 10 – Station Camp 5

Both Spain Park and Station Camp (Tenn.) scored two runs in the first inning before the Lady Jags added four more runs in the second and the Lady Bison added three additional runs in the third. Headed into the fourth inning Spain Park held a 6-5 lead before Tipler, Julianna Cross, Tedder and Casey Kizer all scored in the top of the fourth, pushing the Lady Jags’ lead to 10-5, which was the eventual final. Campbell, Wildra and Caroline Kendrick each saw time on the mound in Spain Park’s third game of the day.

 

Game 4. Dothan 5 – Spain Park 4

After Dothan took a 1-0 lead over Spain Park in the first inning of the final game of the day and a 3-1 lead after the third, the Lady Jags nudged in front in the bottom of the fifth when Kizer, Tipler and Tedder scored to take a 4-3 lead. The Lady Tigers scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth however, and held Spain Park scoreless in the bottom of the sixth to get the tight, 5-4 win. Kendrick and Campbell both saw time on the mound in the final game as Spain Park moved to 21-8.
