FROM STAFF REPORTS

The associates at North Shelby County’s PRADCO Outdoor Brands have taken their fundraising across the Pacific.

Instead of taking the 12-hour flight to Hawaii, though, Sam Touchstone, vice president of finance, introduced Hawaiian Shirt Day in September 2015 to support United Way of Central Alabama and their community.

“It’s a win win,” Touchstone said. “Hawaiian shirts and United Way, you can’t go wrong.”

Employees are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts on the last Friday of each month, and for each Hawaiian shirt, Touchstone donates $1.

Beyond the fundraising for United Way, Jimmy Hreha, PRADCO staff accountant, found that Hawaiian Shirt Day helped to unite the team.

However, Hreha’s participation in the company fundraiser is built on the two principles he holds close to his heart: Give and help.

“Giving is a very powerful tool that can be used to help and bring happiness and peace to someone in need,” he said. “We give to help make a difference in someone’s life.”

United Way of Central Alabama serves Shelby, Jefferson, Walker, Blount and St. Clair counties by providing solutions for the most important needs in the community.

Through its partner agencies and community initiatives, United Way of Central Alabama improve lives and community conditions by building and mobilizing resources.
