PELHAM— As a way to kick off the 2016 concert series at the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre and celebrate the long-awaited return of Jimmy Buffett to the venue, Pelham is hosting a Parrot and Fin Party April 19 from 4-11 p.m.

Buffett, who has not performed in Pelham for 24 years, is the first to take the stage for the amphitheater’s 30th anniversary season. He will be followed by Journey, The Doobie Brothers, 5 Seconds of Summer, Heart with Joan Jett, The Blackhearts and Cheap Trick, according to Ticketmaster.com.

According to Paula Holly, the city executive administrative assistant, Buffett fans usually dress up in crazy colors and tailgate before a concert.

“So what we decided is to have that opportunity to tailgate at the civic complex,” Holly said.

The festivities will begin at 4 p.m. at the Pelham Civic Complex and ice Arena, featuring music by Blaze Entertainment, a cash bar with beach-themed drinks and light snacks.

Birmingham’s 102.5 The Bull confirmed they will be on-site during the event, Holly said, and she is working to secure food trucks for the party as well.

“Mayor (Gary) Waters is huge Jimmy Buffett fan, and we work closely with the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre,” Holly said. “We just thought this was a great way to celebrate.”

Buffett is best known for his music portraying an island lifestyle and humorous personal experiences. Hits include, “Margaritaville,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Brown-eyed Girl.”

The concert will start at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, but the party will continue until 11 p.m. for those who didn’t secure tickets. Admission to the Parrot and Fin Party is free, and Holly said there will be some golf carts to transport guests back and forth from the civic complex.
