ALABASTER – A Gofundme.com fundraiser has raised nearly $30,000 to support an Alabaster woman who lost her unborn baby in a March 7 head-on collision on U.S. 280 as the woman remains hospitalized in Birmingham.

Friends and family members set up the fundraiser the day after Alabaster resident Tiffany Horton was involved in the morning wreck on U.S. 280 near its intersection with Rocky Ridge Road in Mountain Brook.

“Tiffany and her husband Matt were expecting their first child, a baby girl named Adley, at the end of this month,” read the fundraiser’s description. “The impact of the collision left Tiffany with severe injuries and baby Adley was unable to sustain the injuries that she endured.”

In less than a week, more than 575 donors had contributed $28,585, nearly matching the campaign’s $30,000 goal.

“In such a time of tragedy, we ask that friends and family come together to help the Hortons. Although we cannot alleviate the immense pain and sorrow that they are facing, we can help with prayers and monetary donations,” read the fundraiser page. “Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.  If you are unable to give, please just lift the family up in your prayers.”

Since the fundraiser went live, the Hortons have seen an outpouring of support from locals and supporters from across the nation.

“I am sending you deepest sympathies and condolences from here in Idaho,” Glenda Westenskow wrote to the family. “My prayers to Tiffany and the family. You are in my thoughts. Take care!!”

“Praying for you Tiffany and Matt for peace, understanding and quick healing during this most difficult time. God bless and keep you. Amen,” Diane Davis Jones wrote.

Two days after the crash, the Mountain Brook Police Department arrested the other driver involved in the wreck, 21-year-old Fultondale resident Irwin Francisco-Bartolo, and charged him with felony counts of reckless manslaughter and first-degree assault.

According to his arrest warrants, Francisco-Bartolo, who lists an address on Mountain Drive in Fultondale, allegedly caused Adley’s death and caused “serious bodily injury” to Tiffany Horton by driving while he was intoxicated.

As of March 15, Horton was still being treated at UAB Hospital and Francisco-Bartolo was being held in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $200,000.

First-degree assault and reckless manslaughter are both Class B felonies, and carry maximum prison sentences of 20 years if convicted.
