COLUMBIANA–A 29-year-old Montevallo man is facing four counts of felony drug distribution charges as well as conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance after he allegedly sold heroin, cocaine and alprazolam on Shelby County 223 in Montevallo on Jan. 13, 2015.
The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force arrested Derrick Demetrius Reed, who lists an address on the 500 block of Shelby County 223 in Montevallo, on Feb. 18 and charged him with four counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and conspiracy to distribute.
According to his arrest warrants, Reed allegedly distributed cocaine, heroin and alprazolam where he lists a home address in Montevallo.
Reed remains in the Shelby County Jail on a bond totaling $415,000 as of Feb. 22.
According to Reed’s bond recommendation, the charge stems from an alleged “drug trafficking enterprise” that has been under investigation since January 2015. The recommendation claims that the defendant has a lengthy history of criminal activity and has been previously convicted of unlawful distribution and unlawful imprisonment and is a flight risk.
Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance is a Class B felony, and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison for each count, according to Alabama law.
