Thompson girls advance to area finals

After splitting the regular season series with Tuscaloosa County, the Thompson Lady Warriors found themselves fighting to keep their season alive against the Lady Wildcats in the first round of the 7A Area 5 tournament. The game was, however, anticlimactic as Thompson made short work of Tuscaloosa County, as the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 20-12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Jordan LeNoir had 22 points and 11 rebounds while Kahyanne Bolton contributed 15 points as well.

 

Helena girls drop area championship

After easily beating Calera in the first round of the 5A Area 7 tournament on Monday night, the Lady Huskies traveled back to Central-Tuscaloosa High School to take on the regular season area champion Lady Falcons. Helena came up just short of the area title, falling 52-49. The Lady Huskies will now travel to play the winner of the Sylacauga/Talladega Area 8 championship game, taking place tonight, in the 5A Central Sub-Regional round. The sub-regional game will take place on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

 

Vincent girls lose in area finals

After easily beating Fayetteville on Monday night by 30 points to advance to the 2A Area 9 finals, the Lady Yellow Jackets took a tough loss at the hands of Thorsby by a final of 70-48. Quenessa Crawford had 24 points to lead Vincent, while Jasmine Banks had 17 as well. Vincent will now travel to play the winner of the 2A Area 12 tournament on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

 

Oak Mountain girls fall to Hoover

The Lady Eagles of Oak Mountain saw their season end on Wednesday night at the hands of Hoover by a final score of 59-22. The Lady Bucs raced out to a 27-4 lead after the first quarter, and led 39-8 at the half. Oak Mountain finished the season with a 9-16 record.

 

Shelby County boys’ season ends

The Wildcats of Shelby County traveled to Talladega High School to take on Sylacauga in the first round of the 5A Area 8 tournament on Wednesday night. The Wildcats saw their season end earlier than hoped, with an 80-54 loss at the hands of the Aggies. Shelby County ended the year with a 9-17 record.
