FROM STAFF REPORTS

PELHAM— Cub Scout Pack 404 braved the cold night Jan. 23 at Oak Mountain State Park to earn their Polar Bear Badge. The sixteen scouts were required to sleep outside in a tent in temperatures below 32 degrees.

The low for Jan. 23 was predicted to be 23 degrees, so the scouts were easily able to make the requirements for the badge.

During the event, one of the parents, Jesse Holt, taught the boys compass and map reading skills, and then led the group on a hike to Maggie’s Glen. They also learned fire safety skills and flag folding protocol for flag ceremonies.

The attending scouts consisted of Aidan Heape, Ethan Holt, Lance Sulprizio, Cameron Tharpe, Luke Tharpe, Owen Bentrup, John Germany, Hunter Penick, Cliff Windham, Jack Combs, Michael Kuper, Patrick Darrenkamp, Robert Darrenkamp, Dylan Palmier, Shawn McPhai and Aiden McPhail.
