INDIAN SPRINGS – The boys from Indian Springs played host to the Fayetteville Bulldogs on Jan. 28 and pulled out an easy, 60-37 win behind a balanced scoring attack from Ben Lasseter, Dewey Wilbanks and Zac Heino.
Springs, which plays in 3A Area 8 alongside BB Comer, Fultondale and Midfield, jumped out to an early 11-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Lasseter had seven points in the first quarter by himself while Jack McGuire and Oliver Shao both added two as well. Darius Cook led Fayetteville all night, and scored all five of the Bulldogs’ first quarter points.
Heino scored all eight of his points in the game in the second quarter for Springs, while Wilbanks, Lasseter, Shao and Jalen Houston also contributed to the 16-point second quarter effort. Cook did what he could to keep Fayetteville in the game, as he scored 10 points by himself in the period, but Springs still led 27-20 at the half.
In the second half, Cook and Fayetteville could not keep pace with Springs any longer. Lasseter scored eight points in the third quarter by himself while Wilbanks and Christian Owens added four points each to push the lead to 43-26, at which point there was no chance Fayetteville could come back. Cook added five more points in the fourth, and Fayetteville tried to mount a comeback but fell well short, losing 60-37 to the home team.
Lasseter led Springs on the night with 22 points while Wilbanks added 12 and Heino had eight. Cook led Fayetteville and all scorers with 23 points, accounting for 62 percent of the Bulldogs’ scoring.
