Thompson wins Warrior Invitational

ALABASTER – The Thompson Warriors won the 2016 Warrior Invitational by a wide margin on Jan. 23. Thompson beat second place Mountain Brook by 131 points, and was responsible for 40 percent of the total points scored at the meet, which saw six teams compete.
The Warriors had an unprecedented 11 first-place finishers at the meet. There were only three weight classes that Thompson did not win outright, the 132-pound class, the 145-pound class and the 160-pound class. Each of the other 11 weight classes saw a Thompson wrestler take home first place.
Chandler Atkins won the 106-pound division and never struggled in his winning effort. Gabe Hixenbaugh won the 113-pound division, beating Kobe Frazier of Jefferson Davis High School via decision. Nathan Roberts won the 120-pound division, needing just three matches to do so, Josiah Campbell won the 126-pound division, beating teammate Tyler Gilson in the finals. Jacob Megois won the 138-pound class, also beating a teammate, Derek Hussey, in the finals.
Riley Pike won the 152-pound class, Garrett Allen won the 170-pound class, Andrew Lloyd won the 182-pound class, Nicholas Mobley won the 195-pound class, Jeran McCarthy won the 220-pound class and TJ Rayam won the 285-pound class to round out the 11 winners for the Warriors on the day.
Montevallo also competed in the event and placed fifth with 40.5 points. Jhovanie Yanez, who placed second in the 145-pound class after falling to Robbey Killough of Prattville High School, led the Bulldogs on the day.
