FROM STAFF REPORTS

Covenant Classical School presented its Teacher of the Year awards to educators at each of the Birmingham area campuses, according to a Jan. 7 press release.

Celia Barr, lead teacher in the kindergarten classroom, was chosen from the Valleydale campus. Barr has been with the school for 13 years, and her students have consistently made SAT scores in the 90th percentile. Barr is described as having a high level of dedication to her students, not only academically, but also as they grow as individuals.

Angela Jones, who serves as the lead teacher of the kindergarten classroom at the Pelham campus, has worked for Covenant for three years. She is described as being diligent, positive and a great role model and consistently helps her students achieve their very best. Jones’ classroom SAT scores are also in the 90th percentile.

Rana Sweat is a lead teacher in one of the infant classrooms at the Trace Crossings campus. She has been there for a little more than a year, and is described as having a heart for others.

Monique Terry has been with the Homewood campus since it opened its doors in February 2014. She has spent her time as the lead teacher for the toddler classroom. Terry is described as nurturing and seems to become an extension of each student’s family.

“These ladies have maintained the vision and integrity of Covenant Classical Schools and Daycare through exceptional performance in the following areas: classroom evaluations, leadership, attendance, relationship building among students, families and staff and willingness to put others before themselves,” the statement read. “We are both proud of and grateful for these ladies and their desire to go above and beyond as they invest in their students and communities. Congratulations and thank you from Covenant Classical Schools.”
