New Year’s Day accident claims life of Calera woman

HOOVER—A Calera woman has been pronounced dead after her vehicle left the road and crashed on Interstate 65 in Hoover on Jan. 1.
Hoover Police and Fire departments responded to a single vehicle accident on I-65 between Alford Avenue and U.S. 31 at 9:27 a.m. on Jan. 1, according to a news release from the Hoover Police Department.
According to the police department, the vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, left the road, traveled onto the median and down a heavily wooded ravine. The vehicle overturned and the driver, the lone occupant, was ejected and pinned partially under the car.
The Hoover Fire Department Technical Rescue team extracted the driver, Audrey Deanna Armstrong, 37, of Calera, from the wreckage within 15 minutes. She was transported to UAB Hospital with life threatening injures.
Armstrong later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
According to the Hoover Police Department, traffic investigators will continue to investigate to determine the cause of the accident.
