PELHAM— The city of Pelham could gain four additional lots in Hayesbury Commercial Park in January if the Pelham City Council votes to annex those properties.
Branch Banking & Trust— owner of Lot 3, Phase 1 and Lots 1, 2 and 12, Phase 2 in Hayesbury— requested the annexation in a Dec. 10 email written by senior vice president Randall Jenkins.
“It appears they may have been previously annexed as part of the Hayesbury Commercial Park, but some of the paperwork got lost,” Jenkins wrote. “The property is shown on recorded subdivision maps as being located in the city.”
The maps described are located in the Shelby County Courthouse and signed by former Mayor Bobby Hayes, according to Jenkins’ email.
The Hayesbury Commercial Park properties, located near the intersection of Helena Road and Indian Lake Way, do not appear on any county maps as part of Pelham, according to City Council President Rick Hayes.
“On our county maps we have a little triangle right there at Hayesbury office park, and it shows it not being in the city,” Hayes said. “Having said that we have always debated whether it really was.”
Hayes said he has always asked why those properties are not considered part of the city and looks forward to clearing that up in the future.
The council will vote on the ordinance at their Jan. 4, 2016 meeting.
The City Council also,
- Authorized a payment related to the sick time calculations for retired firefighters.
- Authorized extraordinary compensation for certain city of Pelham employees.
- Declared the city’s intent for reimbursement of costs associated with various capital improvements.
- Discussed rescheduling the Jan. 18 Pelham City Council meeting because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
