PELHAM— For the bowling Panthers, every match means improvement. The newly formed team is working hard, according to coach Perry Robinson, and is getting better every time they play.
Pelham’s girls bowling team beat Indian Springs 1024 to 776 Dec. 14, winning two out of the three games. Morgan Mullinax led the team with an impressive score of 211 with Dalton Merrill not far behind at 182.
“It was a strong team effort,” Robinson said. “Everybody in the normal bowling did very well.”
He added that Mullinax and Merrill played particularly well. Karelanna Abshire bowled a 107, Carly Edinger had a 107 and Kaytlyn Maddox had a 102.
Although the Lady Panthers lost to Thompson Dec. 17, Robinson said they will still progress to the regional tournament in January.
“I think that will be fun to go to because it’s the first time that we will have been there,” he said.
The boys bowling team is making improvements as well, according to Robinson. Due to the late formation of the boys’ team, the Panthers are playing more games to make up for ones they missed.
“I’m proud of what the kids have done so far,” Robinson said. “It’s been enjoyable.”
The boys lost to Indian Springs 1488–1613 Dec. 14. Pelham was lead by Craig Cambron with scores of 155 and 150 in the two traditional games and Tyler Barnett who had scores of 174 and 130.
“Both teams have done well…Every time we go out we seem to get better,” Robinson said. “If not the whole team, somebody bowls really well that hasn’t before. It’s been fun to see the look on their face when that happens.”
Both teams will take on Spain Park after the holiday break.
