HOOVER – After a disappointing season opening win over Anniston on Nov. 16, the Spain Park basketball Jaguars took the floor for a second time just 24 hours later in their second home game of the season against a visiting and scrappy Minor team. Spain Park stayed perfect and got to 2-0 in a game that saw two particularly hard fouls on Jaguars big man Austin Wiley, which resulted in technical and intentional fouls.

Jamal Johnson, a day after putting up just six points, came to play in this one, as he was one of the teams leading scorers with 20, tied for leading scorer honors with Wiley, who also ended with 20. Justin Brown was the only other Jaguar who finished in double figures with 15 on the night. The three combined for 76 percent of the team’s scoring.

Spain Park took a 39-32 advantage into the half and essentially maintained that same advantage the entire second half. Minor closed the gap slightly in this one with a 16-11 fourth quarter advantage on the scoreboard, but the Tigers could not get close enough to challenge the Jaguars on this night.

The Jaguars will be on the road for the first time this season on Nov. 19 against Homewood in a game that was originally scheduled for Nov. 20. The game has been rescheduled so as not to interfere with the football playoffs, where Spain Park and Homewood are both still alive.
