INDIAN SPRINGS – The 2015-16 basketball season tipped off for the Westminster School at Oak Mountain and Indian Springs on Nov. 10 as the Knights traveled to Springs to play in both programs’ season openers. Westminster, despite losing a large chunk of its production to graduation a season ago, was hot out of the gate, and jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead before eventually taking the game 59-30.
Springs did not score in double digits in any single quarter while Westminster scored at least 10 points in every quarter. Senior guard Jonathan Stanford led the way for Westminster with 14 points, leading all scorers, while Parker Mixon added 10 points and two steals and Clay Hess chipped in nine points as well. No player from Springs scored more than seven points.
Westminster will look to build on the season opening win when the Knights take on Sumiton Christian on Nov. 13. The game will be the home opener for the Knights, who play their home games at Samford University in Homewood. Indian Springs will try and regroup as it travels to Tarrant on Nov. 12.
