MOBILE – The Chelsea Hornets season came to a disappointing end Friday night, Nov. 6, with a 41-28 loss to the Blount Leopards.
Chelsea struck first, as Anthony Jones found the end zone from ten yards out. Blount answered with a touchdown from quarterback Kadarius Toney. Jones finished with 67 total yards and two touchdowns. Running back Zalon Reynolds added 125 yards and a touchdown.
Toney gave the Leopards their first lead with a 64-yard touchdown pass on their next drive.
The Hornets battled back, scoring three of the next four touchdowns in the game, led by quarterback Matthew Marquet. Marquet threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the game.
As the fourth quarter started, the teams were tied at 28. The Leopards took the lead with under eight minutes to play. The Hornets took over and began their drive down the field.
After converting a fake punt on fourth down, Chelsea advanced deeper into Blount territory.
However, after getting inside the Leopards’ ten-yard line, the Hornets were unable to convert on a pivotal fourth down, giving Blount the ball and the game.
“I couldn’t ask more of these players…they played well and did all we asked,” head coach Chris Elmore said after the game. “We played as hard as we could, but just weren’t able to finish it.”
Chelsea finishes 7-4 on the season.
